For customers

A wallet that works where you actually shop.

Most digital wallets in South Africa are built for people who shop in malls and get paid into a bank account. WynkPay is built for the money that moves through the corner shop — cash in at the till you already walk past, pay by scanning a code, and get access to small credit without a payslip.

Scan and pay

One scanner reads WynkPay codes and every South African bank QR. At a WynkPay shop the payment settles instantly; anywhere else it goes over PayShap.

Send to a phone number

PayShap transfers to any bank, addressed by cellphone number instead of an account number. Money arrives in seconds, not overnight.

Cash in at the shop

Load cash at any participating WynkPay till. No branch, no ATM fee, no travelling to town to deposit money.

Airtime, data and electricity

Buy prepaid airtime, bundles and electricity tokens straight from the wallet — including when you have no data left to browse with.

Buy now, pay later

Split a qualifying basket into instalments at checkout. Affordability is assessed first, and the total you repay is shown before you agree to anything.

A small overdraft

When the month is longer than the money, an assessed overdraft covers the gap. You see the cost in rands, and you can settle it early at no penalty.

A virtual card

Pay online with a card number issued against your wallet. Freeze it, set a daily limit, or make it online-only from the app.

Works when the signal does not

The app queues what it cannot send and syncs the moment you have a bar of signal — you are not locked out because the tower is busy.

Verification tiers

How much you can hold and move depends on how far you have verified.

South African law sets the ceiling, not us. FICA requires more verification for higher limits, so WynkPay opens on a low-risk tier the moment you have a phone number and raises the ceiling as you verify. These are the live platform limits.

Limits are enforced by the platform, not by the app on your phone, and are the same figures published here.

Opening a wallet takes about four minutes.

  1. Download and enter your number

One screen. We send a one-time PIN to confirm the number is yours.

  2. Choose a PIN

Your PIN unlocks the wallet and approves payments. It is hashed on your device with Argon2id and never leaves it in the clear.

  3. Load cash or receive money

Cash in at a participating shop till, get paid by someone else's WynkPay, or transfer from your bank by EFT using your personal reference.

  4. Verify when you need more room

Scan your ID and take a selfie to lift your limits. It takes about two minutes and you keep using the wallet while it processes.

Your money and your data

What we will and will not do with either.

  • Wallet balances are held in trust at our sponsor bank. WynkPay is not a bank and does not lend your balance out.
  • Your PIN is never stored, transmitted or logged in the clear — not by the app, not by us.
  • Card taps run through a PCI CPoC-certified kernel. Card numbers are tokenised at the sponsor bank and never stored on WynkPay systems.
  • We do not sell personal information. Marketing consent is separate from the consent needed to run your account, and you can withdraw it without losing the account.
  • You can request a copy of everything we hold about you, or ask us to delete what we are not legally required to keep, from inside the app.
